SPC Flooring FAQ

What is SPC flooring?
SPC stands for Stone Plastic Composite (also called Stone Polymer Composite). It is a rigid core flooring made from a mixture of limestone powder, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and stabilizers. The result is an extremely dense, 100% waterproof flooring that is more stable and durable than traditional LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) flooring.
Is SPC flooring good for Singapore's climate?
Yes. SPC flooring is ideal for Singapore's hot and humid climate. Unlike hardwood or laminate flooring, SPC has virtually zero water absorption and does not expand or contract with temperature and humidity changes. This makes it the most dimensionally stable flooring option for Singapore homes.
What is the difference between SPC and LVT flooring?
SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) has a rigid stone-polymer core, making it harder and more dent-resistant than LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile). SPC is better for Singapore's climate because it is more dimensionally stable. LVT is more flexible and softer underfoot. For Singapore homes, SPC is generally the better choice due to its superior stability.
How thick should SPC flooring be?
For Singapore homes: 4mm SPC is suitable for bedrooms and low-traffic areas; 6mm SPC is recommended for living rooms and kitchens; 8mm SPC is ideal for high-traffic areas and commercial spaces. Thicker SPC also provides better sound insulation and a more comfortable feel underfoot.
How long does SPC flooring last?
High-quality SPC flooring like Enoch's products can last 20–30 years with proper care. The wear layer thickness determines durability: 0.3mm (12 mil) for light residential use; 0.5mm (20 mil) for heavy residential and light commercial; 0.7mm (28 mil) for heavy commercial use.
Can SPC flooring be installed in wet areas like bathrooms?
Yes. SPC flooring is 100% waterproof and can be installed in bathrooms, kitchens, and other wet areas. However, the joints between planks are not completely watertight, so standing water should be cleaned up promptly. For shower areas, traditional tiles are still recommended.
